Concrete coatings and sealing for new homes, garages and sheds

If you're building a new home or shed and want exposed concrete as the finished surface, CovercreteNZ can seal or coat the concrete to protect it and achieve the finish you're after.
Garages and sheds can also be given a hard-wearing floor coating designed to cope with vehicles, regular foot traffic and everyday use. Depending on the area, options range from clear treatments that retain the natural look of the concrete through to coloured coatings and smooth, gloss or slip-resistant finishes.
Getting us involved before a new floor has regular use also means the concrete hasn't yet been exposed to any wear, staining or contamination.
With more than 25 years' experience in concrete repairs, sealing and specialist coatings, we can assess your concrete, talk through what you want from the finished surface and recommend an appropriate solution. That might be a hard-wearing coloured coating for a garage or shed, a clear treatment that retains the natural appearance of the concrete, or a slip-resistant finish where additional grip is useful. Sika's range gives us plenty of options to match the coating, sealer and finish to the surface, how it will be used and the look you want to achieve.

Repairing, sealing and protecting existing concrete

Older concrete doesn't necessarily need replacing simply because it has become worn, cracked or damaged. Depending on its condition, CovercreteNZ can prepare and repair the surface, seal suitable cracks and apply an appropriate Sika sealer or coating to protect the concrete and improve its appearance.
Cracks aren't all the same, so the right treatment depends on the type of crack, its location and whether movement is involved. We carry out concrete crack repairs and sealing on driveways, outdoor areas and around swimming pools, selecting the repair or flexible sealing system appropriate to the conditions. Around pools, factors such as water, weather and regular foot traffic also need to be considered when selecting the treatment and finish.
Surface preparation may include concrete grinding and removal of existing coatings, contamination or weak substrates to create a sound surface for the new system. Once treated, an appropriate coating or sealer can help protect against water penetration, staining, surface wear and dusting while giving the concrete a cleaner, more finished appearance. We can give advice and recommendations for everything from a localised crack or damaged area to an older garage floor, driveway or other residential concrete surface that needs more extensive attention.

Not necessarily. The concrete and the coating system both determine when work can begin. Some systems require the slab to reach particular moisture conditions, while Sika also has specialist systems that can be applied to green or damp concrete. Daniel can assess the slab and determine what is appropriate before coating begins.

Potentially. Moisture doesn't automatically rule out a coated floor, but it does affect which system can be used. Sika has flooring systems specifically designed to bond to green or hardened damp concrete, so the source and level of moisture need to be considered first.

A suitable resin floor provides a seamless surface that is easier to clean and maintain than untreated concrete. Sika's garage-suitable systems include options specifically designed to provide easy cleanability and low maintenance as well as resistance to normal mechanical and chemical exposure.

Fine grey dust that keeps returning after sweeping can actually be coming from the concrete itself as the surface wears. An appropriate concrete sealer or surface treatment can strengthen and protect the surface, reducing this ongoing dusting.

Outdoor concrete is often exposed to UV, rain, temperature changes and movement, so a system designed for those conditions needs to be selected. Sika has exterior concrete protection systems with properties including weather resistance, waterproofing and UV resistance.

Yes. The appropriate repair depends on the type of crack, its location and whether there is movement. Sika has different concrete repair and flexible sealing systems, including products specifically designed for swimming pools and wet areas, so CovercreteNZ can assess the crack and select a suitable treatment.
