Industrial concrete repairs and sealing, resin flooring and waterproofing for Waikato, the Bay of Plenty and beyond

CovercreteNZ provides specialist coating repairs for concrete, and remediation for damaged or deteriorated industrial surfaces, as well as expert application of resin flooring, concrete coatings and waterproofing systems for new and existing facilities.
We work across a wide range of operating environments, from workshops and warehouses to food manufacturing, dairy farms and meat processing facilities, wet wells and concrete roadways. Systems are specified according to the substrate condition, mechanical loading, chemical exposure, moisture, hygiene requirements and required surface profile.

Industrial resin flooring and concrete coatings

CovercreteNZ is a Sika Approved Applicator with access to a broad range of epoxy and PU floor coatings for light through to heavy-duty industrial applications.
Depending on the application, systems can be specified for:
  • Heavy vehicle, forklift and machinery traffic
  • Abrasion and impact resistance
  • Chemical and oil resistance
  • Wet and wash-down areas
  • Food production and hygienic environments
  • Smooth, self-smoothing or textured finishes
  • Slip-resistant aggregate broadcast systems
  • Walls, coves and vertical surfaces
The system build-up, thickness and finish are matched to the substrate and operating environment rather than applying a standard coating specification to every floor.

Surface preparation and concrete remediation and repairs, and concrete patch repairs

For resin flooring, the bond is only as good as the substrate underneath it. Existing coatings, laitance, weak concrete, contamination and high spots may need to be mechanically removed before application. We use concrete diamond grinding and other appropriate mechanical preparation to expose a sound substrate and establish the surface profile required for the selected system.
Cracks, blowholes, voids, pitting and deteriorated areas are repaired and sealed before the flooring system is built up. We can undertake remedial work where concrete flooring or coated surfaces have failed an MPI inspection and need to be brought back to the required standard. Concrete patch repairs can be used to reinstate localised areas of damaged or deteriorated concrete without treating the entire floor, with the repair material selected to suit the depth, condition and demands of the area.
Substrate moisture also needs to be considered. Some epoxy systems have specific moisture limits, while selected PurCem systems can be installed over substrates with higher moisture content. Where moisture is an issue, the system specification needs to account for it rather than simply coating over the problem.
This preparation is a substantial part of an industrial flooring job and is critical for adhesion and long-term performance.

Different systems for different operating conditions

For general industrial flooring, Sikafloor-264 Plus is a two-part epoxy that can be used as a smooth roller coating, self-smoothing wearing layer or seal coat over an aggregate-broadcast system. It provides good mechanical and impact resistance with a seamless finish and can be configured as either smooth or slip resistant.
Where operating conditions require a heavier-duty solution, Sikafloor PurCem polyurethane-cement systems are available for environments subject to higher mechanical loads, abrasion and chemical exposure. PurCem HS-21, for example, is a 4–6 mm system with compressive strength above 55 MPa and maximum service temperatures of +80°C at 4 mm and +90°C at 8 mm.
Other Sika systems and protective coatings, including Sikagard products, give us further options for floors, walls and concrete structures. The specification ultimately comes down to what the surface needs to withstand.

Slip-resistant flooring and surface profiles

Slip resistance can be built into the flooring specification according to the operating environment.
Rather than simply adding a generic "non-slip coating", aggregate grades and system build-up can be varied to achieve the required surface profile. Aggregate can be broadcast into the flooring system to create the required uniformed profile before the seal coat is applied.
This allows us to balance slip resistance against other practical requirements such as wash-down, hygiene and ease of cleaning.

Food production and hygienic flooring

Food and beverage facilities introduce another set of requirements, including wash-down, chemical exposure, hygiene and slip resistance.
Sika has flooring systems developed specifically for these environments. PurCem systems provide seamless polyurethane-cement surfaces with high abrasion resistance, chemical resistance and good impact resistance. Selected Sika flooring systems also carry MPI clean room certification and slip-resistance approvals or certifications, making them suitable for specified food-production environments.
We can specify an appropriate system for food manufacturing, processing and other hygiene-sensitive environments according to the requirements of the site.

Waterproofing joints, penetrations and concrete structures

CovercreteNZ also provides specialist Sika waterproofing for wet wells, pipe penetrations, construction and movement joints, cracks and other areas where a durable watertight seal is required.
Sikadur-Combiflex SG is a flexible joint and crack sealing system consisting of modified flexible polyolefin waterproofing tape bonded to the substrate with Sikadur epoxy adhesive. Unlike a rigid repair, the system can accommodate movement across the joint or crack while maintaining the waterproof seal.
This makes it suitable for applications including pipe penetrations, floor-to-wall joints, construction and movement joints, and other areas where movement needs to be accommodated while maintaining a watertight seal.

25+ years of industrial concrete resin coating experience

With many years of experience in specialist concrete flooring, repairs and coatings, we have worked across everything from food and honey manufacturing facilities to automotive workshops, factories, warehouses, wet wells and concrete roading. Every site has different demands, so we'll assess the substrate, loading, exposure and operating environment before recommending the appropriate Sika repair, sealing, flooring or waterproofing system.

It depends on the flooring system. Concrete normally needs to reach the required condition before a resin system is applied, including appropriate strength and moisture levels. Some Sika systems can be applied to green or damp concrete, giving us options where waiting for a conventional dry substrate isn't practical.

The substrate needs to be sound enough to support the new flooring system. Depending on the project, this can include checking the condition and strength of the concrete, moisture levels, contamination and the integrity of the existing surface before preparation begins.

Yes. A processing area, loading zone, workshop and wet area can have very different performance requirements. Different systems or surface profiles can be specified across a facility according to traffic, chemicals, moisture, temperature, hygiene and slip-resistance requirements.

Some systems are specifically designed to tolerate elevated temperatures and thermal shock. The appropriate system depends on the cleaning regime, temperature, frequency of exposure and whether chemical and mechanical loads are occurring at the same time.

Chemical resistance varies between flooring systems and according to the chemical, concentration, temperature and duration of exposure. If chemical resistance is important, we'll establish what the floor is likely to encounter before recommending the system.

Yes. Flooring systems can be incorporated with coves and compatible wall coatings to reduce vulnerable junctions between floors and walls. This is particularly useful in processing, wash-down and hygiene-sensitive environments.
